Venice Art Walk Celebrates 17th Year

Venice is a busy place on warm, sunny Sundays, but this weekend the beach community will be buzzing with more activity than usual.
Crowds will gather Sunday for the Venice Art Walk, an annual tour of the studios of local artists.
Shuttles will take visitors around Venice as they follow the self-guided tour.
Although the studio tours happen Sunday, Art Walk events began Friday evening. The weekend kicked off with concerts in private homes on the Westside.
Today, there are docent tours of artists’ studios in Topanga Canyon, Malibu and other Westside locations. There also is an auction of the artists’ work.
This is the Art Walk’s 17th year and, as always, the money raised from ticket sales goes to support the Venice Family Clinic, a free community clinic founded in 1970.
The event has grown tremendously since its first year when there were only 18 artists involved and 500 people who took the tour, said Sheila Goldberg, chairperson of the Art Walk.
Last year, the event included 60 local artists and 5,000 people turned out for the tours, Goldberg said.
The Venice Family Clinic raised nearly $460,000 from last year’s event, she said.
