Nation IN BRIEF : WEST VIRGINIA : 1 Dead, 1 Missing in Storm Flooding

Rain-swollen streams poured out of their banks, forcing nearly 600 people from their homes and sweeping one woman to her death as she waited with a packed suitcase for emergency workers to arrive. A second person was missing. Storms that dumped more than 3 inches of rain on parts of southern West Virginia also knocked out power to 3,900 customers and forced schools in five counties to close. In adjoining Kentucky, Pike County was hit hard for the second time in as many weeks with flash flooding that washed out roads, stranded residents and forced evacuations.
