A severe storm battered part of northern Bangladesh, killing more than 30 people, local officials said. They said more than 2,000 people were injured as the storm, clocking speeds of up to 93 mph, tore through the district of Tangail and part of neighboring Jamalpur. More than 30 bodies had been recovered, and the death toll could reach 100, they said. But search efforts were slowed by thousands of tons of debris and poor communications, the officials said. They said more than 10,000 houses were damaged.
