Tritons Forfeit 15 Softball Victories

The San Clemente softball team has forfeited 15 victories after school officials discovered an academically ineligible player was used, Athletic Director Rob O’Rear said Wednesday.
The Tritons were in second place in the South Coast League with a 16-7 record, 4-2 in league, and had been ranked in last week’s county top 10 poll. Triton Coach Bill Everhart held the ineligible player out of Friday’s 10-1 victory over Mission Viejo after the error was discovered. San Clemente are 2-22, 2-5 after winning Wednesday.
“Basically, it is a clerical, administrative error. That is the bottom line,” O’Rear said. School officials declined to name the ineligible player.
