Mission College will host a hospitality symposium and culinary arts competition among students from 12 community colleges on Friday.
Students will compete in a variety of categories, including cold- and hot-food preparation, garnish-making and catering-platter display, table setting and menu preparation.
Side events include ice-carving and food-preparation demonstrations.
The symposium, funded by a Home Economics Education Hospitality Occupational Leadership grant from the state community college chancellor’s office, is co-sponsored by Mission College and Glendale Community College.
Judges are from the American Culinary Federation and include professionals in the food and hospitality industries.
Prizes include a scholarship to the Napa Valley campus of the Culinary Institute of America.
The sale of raffle tickets will benefit culinary arts scholarship funds at Mission and Glendale colleges.
Friday’s event will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the quad at Mission College, 13356 Eldridge Ave., Sylmar.
