To increase students’ understanding of their cultural diversity, trustees of Capistrano Unified School District have proclaimed May as Asian Pacific Heritage Month.

Schools will organize activities that highlight the historical and cultural contributions that Asian Pacific Americans have made to the growth and development of California and the nations, officials said.

Programs will include reading literature about Asian Americans, learning folk dances and preparing foods from the Asian Pacific region.
