Nation IN BRIEF : OREGON : Man Found Guilty in Ill Son’s Death

A man who chose prayer over medicine to treat his 7-year-old son’s leukemia was convicted of criminally negligent homicide. Loyd Hays of Brownsville, Ore., was acquitted of first- and second-degree manslaughter. His wife, Christina Hays, was acquitted on all three counts. Tony Hays died in November 1994, three weeks after he began showing symptoms of acute lymphocytic leukemia. Doctors said it was treatable.
