Nation IN BRIEF : TEXAS : NRA Board Names Woman as President

The National Rifle Assn. board of directors named Marion Hammer as its president, the first woman to head the 3-million-member organization in its 125-year history. The board, wrapping up the NRA’s annual convention in Dallas, formally elected Hammer to the position that she first filled last December after the death of predecessor Thomas L. Washington. She is embarking on a plan to begin recruiting a new generation of gun stalwarts by revamping the NRA’s youth programs.
