BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Edmonds’ Elbow Still in Pain
Outfielder Jim Edmonds winces every time he throws, the tendinitis in his left elbow causing him “more pain than I’ve ever felt in my arm before.â€
Edmonds had the elbow X-rayed Friday--it didn’t reveal any major problems--and he has been receiving ice and ultrasound treatments, but what he really could use is a day off--or two or three--to give his arm a chance to heal.
Edmonds has a certain day in mind: “Sometime this winter,†he said. This is a guy who had a reputation for not playing hurt?
Edmonds played about a month of the 1995 season despite a broken bone in his foot and gutted out last August and September after straining two muscles in his lower back.
His arm has gotten progressively worse this past week because he had to make several strong throws from the outfield in the Toronto series, but he has played every inning of every game this season.

The Angels optioned reliever Ken Edenfield to triple-A Vancouver after Friday night’s game to make room for starter Scott Sanderson, who will start his first game of 1996 today against the Tigers. . . . Jorge Fabregas is batting .316, but it appears he will share catching duties with Don Slaught. Lachemann said the right-handed-hitting Slaught likely would start against left-handers and a few right-handers.
