Tredway Lifts Los Alamitos Over Norco
Cyndi Tredway hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Los Alamitos a 3-2 victory over Norco in the second round of the Canyon softball tournament Saturday at Peralta Park in Anaheim Hills.
The Griffins (10-3) had fallen behind, 2-1, in the top half of the 10th when Norco got a run-scoring single.
Norco broke a scoreless tie with a run in the eighth, but the Griffins answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Junior Mandy Rockwell (6-1) gave up only two hits for Los Alamitos.
In other Canyon tournament games:
Corona Centennial 2, El Dorado 1 (9)--Centennial scored the winning run on a squeeze play in the ninth inning. Jamie Nebeker had a run-scoring single for El Dorado (8-4).
Whittier Christian 8, Savanna 0 (6, mercy)--Jodi Alessi and Julie Smith each drove in two runs for Whittier Christian (5-8). Alessi, who scored three runs against Savanna, scored two more in a second game, which the Heralds lost, 6-5, to Murrieta Valley.
Mater Dei 8, Cypress 0 (6, mercy)--Brooke Hofstetter (6-0) pitched a one-hitter and Shealee Dunavan and Jodi Schicker homered for second-ranked Mater Dei (12-1).
In the Covina Charter Oak tournament:
La Habra 3, West Covina South Hills 0--Shelley Salas hit her first two home runs and finished three for three with three RBIs for La Habra (7-5).
Later, La Habra defeated La Verne Bonita, 8-0, in five innings. Jenny Topping was two for two with a home run and three RBIs.
In nonleague softball:
Troy 4-1, Tustin 3-2--Tustin (5-8) earned a split when Michelle Silva doubled home Sarah Montes in the top of the eighth.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Santa Barbara 11, Corona del Mar 7--Corona del Mar’s Boris Turkich dropped his first set of the season, losing to Santa Barbara’s Sam Webster, 6-4. Turkich’s record is 23-1.
