Who Has the Answers in Willie Davis Saga?
The March 22 story about Willie Davis illustrates why many sportswriters are held in low esteem. Davis is described as a “former Dodger,” as if that’s the only team he played for. And the final sentence of the story: “He also said--when asked--that he has not heard from the Dodgers.” Why on earth should he hear? Do they owe him anything? Was he asked whether he had heard from any of his other former employers. Ask all the questions, including: Doesn’t Mr. Davis have a nice pension from baseball?
