Covina Charter Oak is honoring Julie Smith, a member of this year’s U.S. Olympic team, by retiring her number Monday before the final of a tournament the school is hosting. Smith, the CIF’s player of the year in 1985, is a six-time international gold medalist and four-time All-American at Texas A&M; and Fresno State. . . . Nicole DeSalvio of Corona pitched a one-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Riverside Ramona on Wednesday and three days later pitched a no-hitter against Rancho Cucamonga. She also led the Panthers with a home run in the 6-0 victory. . . . Senior Crystal Ratliff went three for three in an 11-0 victory over Lone Pine on Tuesday to lead Victor Valley Christian (7-0). Ratliff hit two home runs against Lucerne Valley last week. . . . Pius X-St. Matthias of Downey was led by Beatrice Ochoa, who pitched three innings, and Lisset Aviles, who went three for three and drove in four runs, in a 21-0 victory over Mission Hills Queen of Angels. . . . Elizabeth Sanches hit a grand slam and Jennifer Spigner had a leadoff home run and two hits in Lakewood’s 12-3 victory over Lakewood Mayfair. . . . Pitcher Danielle Cassara helped her own cause when she doubled and drove in a run to give Long Beach Millikan a 1-0 victory over Bellflower. Millikan is ranked No. 6 in the latest Southern Section Division II poll.
