Four people in a stolen car were arrested Tuesday after fleeing through a neighborhood with a shotgun, police said.
Dominic Gregory Pack, 19, and three juvenile males were jailed and may be extradited to their native New Mexico, Police Sgt. John Desmond said. The juveniles were not identified because of their age.
The incident began about 2 p.m. when a car that was stopped at Seashore Drive and Orange Street drew the attention of patrol Officer Randy Parker. A computer check on the New Mexico plates showed it was not legally registered, Desmond said.
Parker, who approached the car with another officer, was attacked by the 17-year-old driver and suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, Desmond said.
The driver was arrested, but Pack and two others fled from the car into a neighborhood.
Police surrounded the neighborhood. A resident who called 911 led them to the trio in an alley on West Ocean Front near Grant Street.
A shotgun, modified and fitted with a pistol grip, was located behind a nearby trash can, Desmond said.
Pack was held Tuesday night at the Newport Beach City Jail on suspicion of grand theft auto, and bail was set at $10,000. The two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old also were held at the city jail pending transfer to the county Juvenile Hall.
All of the juveniles are wanted in connection with New Mexico crimes, Desmond said.
