LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sherick Simpson scored 24 points and Anthony Pope added 19 as Fort Hays State completed a perfect season with a 70-63 victory over Northern Kentucky in the NCAA Division II championship game Saturday.
Fort Hays State (34-0) of Hays, Kan., became the third team in the division’s 40-year history to finish with an undefeated record. Evansville (1965) and Cal State Bakersfield (1993) also had unbeaten records.
Northern Kentucky (25-7) shot a season-low 29% and couldn’t contain the sharpshooting of Simpson and Pope, who combined for 14-of-18 shooting, including eight of 10 from three-point range.
