Nation IN BRIEF : OREGON : Restaurant to Refund Man’s $1,000 Tip
- Share via
A man who changed his mind about leaving a Portland area waitress a $1,000 tip is getting his money back--but not from her. The company that owns Stanford’s Restaurant & Bar in Lake Oswego decided to “step up and pay the $1,000,” said Robert MacLellan, chief executive officer of Pacific Coast Restaurants Inc. The man left the tip for a $3.95 drink. Ruth Bullis and her colleagues say the tipper wasn’t drunk when he signed the credit-card slip in November. Furthermore, she said another waitress and her manager each asked him if he was sure he wanted to give a $1,000 tip. Three months later, American Express notified the restaurant that the man was disputing the bill.
