School Jazz Band to Resume Performing
With the death of Scott Howell still fresh on their minds, the Moorpark High School jazz band will return to performing in a concert at 7 tonight at the high school auditorium.
Scott, 16, one of the band’s most popular members, died March 4 when the truck he was riding in smashed into a telephone pole in Moorpark. The driver’s attention was distracted by a dog in the cab of the pickup, according to authorities.
Scott was buried in his band uniform. The band’s horn section played “Amazing Grace†at the rosary.
The band will be joined by the Lane 29 jazz ensemble, a group of Ventura County’s best young musicians.
Tickets are $3. Money raised by the event will be used to benefit the music program at the high school, at 4500 Tierra Rejada Road.
