Funds to Maintain Library Hours Sought
Library hours at two Ventura branches could be maintained at current levels if the City Council agrees to spend $108,000 tonight.
The council is scheduled to decide whether to allocate the money, which would continue to add 17 hours of service a week at the H.R. Wright and E.P. Foster libraries.
The County Library Services Agency now provides funding for 36 hours a week. The city’s contribution would push the service level to 53 hours a week.
Although Ventura’s libraries are operated by the county, the City Council agreed last year to pay for additional hours rather than allow cash-poor branches to open later and close earlier.
The funding would not provide additional hours at the Ventura Avenue Library, however, which has some westside residents concerned. That branch is only funded by the county through June 30.
