Hawaii Women Hold Off Pacific to Win Big West

RENO, Nev. — Nani Cockett scored a career-high 28 points, 22 in the second half, and Hawaii held off Pacific, 68-64, Saturday to win the Big West women’s basketball tournament championship and an NCAA tournament berth.
Kendis Leeburg and Tania Brunton each scored 16 points for Hawaii (23-5), which lost in two previous trips to the tournament final before breaking through for its first title.
Hawaii will be making its fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Kate McAllister, who was named tournament MVP, led Pacific (18-12) with 28 points. Connie Blaisure added 14 and Sue Will had 10 for the Tigers, who lost in the tournament final for the second straight season.
It was Pacific’s 12th loss in 13 games against Hawaii.
