SAN FRANCISCO--The Great San Francisco Crystal Fair brings sparkling specimens to Building A in Fort Mason Center, Feb. 24-25. Crystals, minerals, jewelry and healing arts are featured, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. $4; free for those under 12. (415) 383-7837.
DANA POINT--Show off your furred and feathered friends at the third annual Wag-a-thon on March 2. Pets and their owners gather for the walk-parade (2K and 4K) at the Richard Henry Dana Statue at Dana Point Harbor. Registration is at 8 a.m.; the walk starts at 9 a.m. $20. Non-pet owners welcome too. Proceeds benefit the Animal Rescue Foundation of Dana Point. Prizes are given for Owner/Pet Look-Alike, Odd Couple and in other categories. MENDOCINO--The Mendocino Whale Festival, celebrating the migration of the California gray whale, is March 2-3. Highlights include wine tasting, 1-4 p.m. both days throughout the village of Mendocino; chowder tasting, 11 a.m. Saturday in Crown Hall; whale-watching walks on the Mendocino Headlands, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday; whale-watching excursions from Noyo Harbor, and tours of the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse both days. SANGER--It’s time for the fruit and almond trees to explode with blooms. The Blossom Days Celebration, March 2-3, welcomes the flowers and visitors. The festivities, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days in Municipal Square (Jensen and Hoag avenues), include arts and crafts, live entertainment, food booths and a quilt show. Free.
