INTERFAITH BANQUET: The San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council’s fifth Human Relations Awards dinner Feb. 22 will honor Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson plus executives of the Kaiser Permanente health management organization and the United Methodist Church.

The banquet, not held the last two years because of projects associated with earthquake recovery, will take place at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills.

As previously announced, retiring Rep. Anthony Beilenson (D-Woodland Hills) will be given a Spirit of the Valley Award by the Chatsworth-based council.

Council spokeswoman Arlene Landon said that Wilson will be honored for her community involvements in the Valley while Drs. David Potyk and Joseph Ruderman, medical directors for Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Panorama City and Woodland Hills, will be cited for the hospital’s continuing financial support of the multifaith council.

United Methodist Bishop Roy I. Sano and Donald H. Inloes, director of emergency response for the denomination’s Los Angeles area, will be cited for their work after the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

CEDAR TALKS: The Rev. Paul Cedar, president of the Evangelical Free Church of America, will be the featured speaker during a missions conference at Calvary Bible Church in Burbank on Feb. 4.

Cedar, who served as an interim pastor at Calvary in 1974 and 1975, was executive pastor at Hollywood Presbyterian Church and senior pastor of Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena before accepting the top post in the Minneapolis-based denomination several years ago. Cedar also chairs a movement called Mission America 2000.

Cedar will speak at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Burbank church, 1101 S. Main St., according to Pastor Richard Laue.

Ten seminars will be offered between 1 and 4 p.m. by representatives of Wycliffe Bible Translators, Young Life, Navigators and other evangelical ministries. Information: (818) 556-4840.

ALTERNATE THERAPY: Jewish ideas and techniques of healing and therapy drawn in part from mystical cabala teachings will be included in a series of four workshops on alternative healing methods Sunday afternoon at the University of Judaism, 15600 Mulholland Drive.

Rabbi Stephen Robbins of Congregation N’Vay Shalom, who has a private counseling practice, will teach cabala techniques for psychological, emotional and spiritual healing from 1 to 4 p.m., said a spokesman for the university’s continuing education department.

PRESBYTERIAN MODERATOR: The Rev. Henry Bremer will be installed as moderator of the Presbytery of San Fernando during the regional unit’s meeting starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Panorama Presbyterian Church, 14201 Roscoe Blvd.

Bremer, who has been working as an administrator with Southern California Presbyterian Homes, has been a member of the San Fernando Presbytery since 1972, when he began six years on the staff of St. James Presbyterian Church in Tarzana.
