SUPER FAN: It’s Super Bowl week, so you can bet that Dr. John Perry of Huntington Harbour is in Tempe, Ariz., for the Dallas-Pittsburgh grand finale. Perry, 76, has been to every Super Bowl game ever played. . . . “If the good Lord keeps me alive until Sunday, that one will make 30,” he says. Perry, still in practice, was formerly a team doctor for the Washington Redskins, and later for the Los Angeles Rams. “It’s like old home week,” he says of the Super Bowl. “I wouldn’t think of missing it.”
CART ‘EM OFF: They’re getting serious in the city of Orange about stranded grocery carts. The police have set up a hotline ([714] 744-7454) so people can report abandoned carts. . . . About 30,000 mailers will soon go to residents pointing out the unsightliness of renegade carts--also their danger, if left on a sidewalk or in the street. Four new laws will be proposed soon making it a misdemeanor if you’re caught with a shopping cart off a store’s premises.
STINGING STORY: Anders Bjella of Costa Mesa was just a toddler 13 months ago when he suffered a bite from a deadly scorpion on a family vacation in Puerto Vallarta. It had curled up in his shoe. All is well now, and he’ll be watching with his parents, Ross and Diane, as their crisis is relived on a new CBS TV show, “The World’s Most Dangerous Animals,” tonight at 9 (Channel 2). . . . Their advice on the show: When in unfamiliar territory, shake your clothes and shoes before you put them on.
WORLD AFFAIR: It made sense for Irvine Valley College to host an international festival Wednesday welcoming new students. Its enrollment includes students from 46 countries. Says spokesman George McCrory: “It was to promote the college as an ideal place for international students, but also to give the general student population a chance to enjoy a cross-cultural celebration.” Later in the day, the Hyatt Regency Irvine had a reception for the international students and their families.
