Two Royal Water Polo Players Selected to All-American Team
Bill Bruininga and Chris Richeson of Royal High have been selected to the All-American and All-Southern California water polo teams.
Bruininga, a senior, was a third-team All-Southern California choice and fifth-team All-American. Richeson, a junior, was selected fifth-team All-Southern California and ninth-team All-American.
Basketball
Because eight of his players complained Friday of some sort of illness, Cal State Northridge Coach Pete Cassidy has given the team two days off from practice to keep the flu and strep throat from spreading.
Football
Former Burbank High coach John Hazelton, who resigned in November under a cloud of alleged recruiting violations, has taken an assistant-coaching position at Berkeley High. Hazelton will be working for Mike Tuiasosopo, who was on George Gianini’s staff at Montclair Prep with Hazelton.
Miscellany
Athletic Director Paul Bubb of Cal State Northridge met Friday with Ron Kopita, the school’s vice president in charge of student affairs, to formulate a plan for the school to make the changes necessary to join the Big Sky Conference.
Bubb would not comment on the plan and Kopita did not return phone calls to his office. Bubb said he and Kopita will meet with Blenda J. Wilson, the school’s president, next week to finalize a plan.
Bubb had said Thursday his preference was to maintain all of Northridge’s sports, but make significant budget cuts to those not producing revenue.
Ventura College is conducting registration today at noon at the campus pool for an upcoming water polo league for men and women.
