Update : Follow-up on the news : Council Passes Law to Limit Adult Businesses

A commitment by the City Council to regulate adult businesses has resulted in a new city ordinance. The council late last year passed an urgency measure limiting where adult businesses, such as clubs with nude dancers, can be situated.

City Manager Daniel E. Keen told the council at the time that the city needed such controls because at least one adult business had made inquiries. Keen said cities cannot ban adult businesses outright but can limit location and operation.

The City Council followed up on the urgency measure, which became effective immediately, with a hearing Jan. 2. No one from the public showed up to testify for or against the proposal.

The council subsequently passed the ordinance, which will take effect in late February and will replace the urgency measure.
