Will Rogers Hikes
In “Hikes for Tykes” (Dec. 24), John McKinney recommends the trails in and around Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades. But on Wednesday the Will Rogers Backbone Trail segment officially opens to mountain bikes. This means large numbers of fast-moving bicyclists riding the Rogers Trail and fire roads. Issues of safety and enjoyment, as well as environmental concerns, suggest that the Rogers Trails offer a poor--and perhaps dangerous--choice for family hiking. A better suggestion is tranquil Solstice Canyon in Malibu.
