Man Killed by Train Was Oxnard Resident
An Oxnard man who was killed by a train Friday was identified as J. Asuncion Yanez-Jimenez, 38, the Ventura County coroner’s office said Saturday.
The death is being classified as a suicide, officials said.
Yanez-Jimenez was walking on the tracks near San Jon Road in Ventura when the engineer noticed him, said Craig Stevens, a senior deputy coroner.
When the train whistle sounded, Yanez-Jimenez turned around and began walking in the opposite direction, but made no effort to get out of the path of the southbound train, Stevens said.
The engineer was unable to stop the train before it slammed into Yanez-Jimenez about 5:10 p.m., killing him on contact.
