Unidentified Man Killed by Train
An unidentified man was hit and killed Friday night by a southbound Amtrak train near San Jon Road in Ventura, Ventura police said.
According to a witness who asked not to be identified, the man was walking along the tracks before the train smashed into him about 5:10 p.m.
“I saw the train and told him to get off the tracks, but he wouldn’t listen to me,” the witness said. “The train blew its whistle and braked, but it couldn’t stop in time.”
The Coast Starlight, traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles, was held up for about two hours because of the accident, authorities said. It had left Santa Barbara half an hour earlier and was headed for a stop in Oxnard.
