New Year Delivers a Bundle of Joy
An 8-pound, 14-ounce baby girl arrived just minutes after midnight to become Ventura County’s first baby of 1996.
Rachel Ann Cox was born at 12:08 a.m. Monday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. She is the daughter of Carrie Brown and Blake Cox of Ventura and is the couple’s first baby.
“I knew it would happen on New Year’s day because that was her due date,” Brown said. “It was really funny at midnight. I was pushing and everybody stopped and said, ‘happy new year,’ then we continued pushing again.”
Rachel’s timely arrival--after 12 hours of labor--means her parents will receive a year’s supply of diapers from the hospital. “She’s already a small celebrity,” said Brown, 34.
Rachel was delivered by Dr. Steven Coyle.
After Rachel, the county’s next arrival came at 1:38 a.m. when a boy was born at Los Robles Regional Medical Center. A girl followed at 2:08 a.m. at Ventura County Medical Center. The next baby, another girl, arrived at 9:10 a.m. at Simi Valley Hospital.
