BUENA PARK : American Legion Buys Its Site From County
- Share via
In its continuing campaign to raise money by shedding assets, the county has sold the historic American Legion Post in Buena Park to the service organization for $100,000.
Since 1946, the county had leased the building to American Legion Post 354. Under the agreement, the post paid the county $1 a year but took responsibility for maintaining and managing the property.
The sale will relieve the county of any future liability or expenses for the property, at 8071 Whitaker St. Under terms of the sale, the post must continue to use the building for veterans services.
The organization will pay $40,000 down and the remaining $60,000 over 20 years.
Built in 1928, the one-story stucco-and-red-tile structure is one of the older buildings in Buena Park. It contains a restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.
Under the California Military & Veterans Code, the county would have been responsible for relocating the American Legion Post had the building been sold to another party.
