A 16-year-old Meiners Oaks boy was in satisfactory condition late Tuesday after being run over by a pickup truck driven by his father, officials said.
Joey Macdonald was driving his go-cart on Stockbridge Lane about 3 p.m. when his father accidentally hit the teenager, authorities said.
“He was pinned beneath the rear wheel, with the tire sitting on his pelvic area,” Capt. Bob Myers of the Ventura County Fire Department said.
Rescue crews used two air bags and wooden cribbing to extricate the boy from under the pickup, which was driven by Jim Macdonald.
Neighbor Camron Brown, 18, was in his house when he heard the loud thump of the accident.
“I ran down there as fast as I could,” Brown said. “We were trying to get the truck off him because he was pinned.
“There were three of us, and we were able to move it a little bit before the firetrucks got there,” he said. “The back tire of the truck was sitting right on his groin.”
Brown said he, another witness and the boy’s father all tried to free the youth from under the vehicle. “He was screaming because he was in pretty much pain,” Brown said. “I just did what I could to help.”
The boy was taken to Ojai Valley Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for possible broken bones, hospital officials said.
“It could have been much worse,” Myers said.
