GM Considers Used-Car Warranties for All Divisions: General Motors Corp. and its dealers are attempting to tap a growing market and fend off competitors. They have launched a 90-day test of the plan at Atlanta and Las Vegas dealerships. They will offer 12-month or 12,000-mile warranties covering repair costs on used vehicles that have been inspected and certified. Until now, the warranties were available only on Cadillacs and Saturns. Nissan Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and several luxury auto makers offer similar programs. Customers would pay at least indirectly for the warranties, because such cars are typically priced higher. The program’s cost is expected to be borne largely by dealers, with some support from GM.
