CAMARILLO : GTE Manager Picked for Planning Panel

After reviewing applications from 20 candidates, Camarillo Mayor David M. Smith has selected a telephone company manager as the city’s newest planning commissioner.
Lawrence F. Bligh was chosen to replace former Commissioner Harriet Hammond, who announced last month that she would step down from the land-use panel.
Bligh, 41, works as a regional manager for GTE and said in his application that he has lived in Camarillo for 12 of the past 15 years.
He has served on the local YMCA site council, the community college’s curriculum council and is a member of the Ventura County Economic Development Assn.’s air-quality management committee.
Bligh was traveling and unavailable for comment. But at a City Council meeting earlier this week, Smith praised Bligh for his dedication to community service.
The newest planning commissioner’s first meeting is Tuesday. Bligh’s term will expire in January 1997.
