Westside : DOG PARK

After years of pleading for more park space for their canines, dog owners in Santa Monica have won City Council approval for a new temporary off-leash dog park and for longer hours at the existing dog park.
The council’s unanimous decision leaves the city’s dog owners with fenced-in areas at two municipal parks where, temporarily at least, owners can let their dogs run free.
The new hours for the popular off-leash dog areas--at Joslyn Park and now tiny Pacific Park--extend from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends.
But many dog owners said the council’s decision is not a complete victory. Some complained that the two areas are too small. The council is scheduled to choose permanent sites for the off-leash areas in February.
