The Denver Rio Grande Ski Train--as popular with non-skiers as skiers--begins its winter runs Saturday. It will depart promptly at 7:15 a.m. each Saturday and Sunday from Denver’s Union Station. After gaining 4,000 feet and chugging through 29 tunnels, it arrives about two hours later at Winter Park Resort. Round-trip fares start at $35.
Besides offering 121 trails over 59 miles for skiing, Winter Park has much for non-skiers, including sleigh rides, snowmobile rides and tours, ice skating and shopping. The train begins its return trip at 4:15 p.m. Information and reservations: (303) 296-4754.
