A 26-year-old woman chased two men who had taken $4,000 worth of rings from her father’s jewelry store Friday and, with the help of bystanders, caught one of them, police said.

Two men entered the Latino Jewelers in the 100 block of W. 4th Street about 2 p.m. and told the owner they were looking for Christmas gifts, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Bob Clark said.

When the owner briefly turned his back, one man reached over the glass counter and grabbed a tray of rings. The men ran from the store, with the owner’s daughter chasing them.

The woman screamed to people along 4th Street to help her stop the men, and several joined the chase. They helped the woman pin one suspect in an underground parking lot about five blocks from the store, Clark said. The other robber escaped with the jewelry.
