MOORPARK : Killer, 23, Sentenced to Mental Hospital
A Ventura County judge on Friday sentenced a 23-year-old Moorpark man to a mental hospital for killing his roommate earlier this year.
Michael Philip Baity admitted stabbing Fernando Fierro, 54, to death in May. Baity and Fierro shared a home on Pecan Avenue while Baity attended Moorpark College, where he was an honors student.
Baity was found two days after the slaying wandering naked and bloody in a wooded area near Piru, claiming to be Jesus Christ.
Last month, after hearing testimony from a psychiatrist and a psychologist, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. ruled that Baity was guilty but insane.
Baity will be sent to Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino County, which Deputy Dist. Atty. Roger Inman called the “most secure [mental] facility in the state.â€
Baity could remain at the hospital for the rest of his life, Inman said.
