BOYS’ WRESTLING: 1995-1996 WRESTLING PREVIEW : SIX TEAMS TO WATCH : SANTA ANA
Coach: Scott Glabb (sixth year).
1994-95: 24-3, 4-0 in the the Golden West League; came out strong but stumbled at the end of the season, finishing a disappointing sixth at the Southern Section Division III finals.
Key returners: Ignacio Bahena, Sr., 119; Luis Godinez, Sr., 145; Jose Morales, Jr., 130; Sadie Morales, Sr., 125; Octavio Olivares, Sr., 140; Tony Perez, So., 103; Fernando Serratos, Jr., 112.
Key newcomers: Alazro Lopez, Sr., 135; Sam Pena, Jr., 189; Jose Sagrero, Jr., 215.
Outlook: The Saints’ goals are to win the Southern Section Division III championship and place among the Top 10 at State. A bit lofty? Well, on paper the Saints stack up very well--even against Calvary Chapel. With only two members of last season’s starting lineup lost to graduation, Santa Ana looks very good in the lower and middle weights. Seniors Bahena and Sadie Morales are healthy and experienced, and Perez will give the Saints a good opening at 103. The Saints meet Calvary Chapel in the California Classic on Dec. 23 at UC Davis.
