MOORPARK — Quarterback Bryan Paul completed 11 of 20 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown and also ran for another Friday night as Moorpark High posted a 27-13 victory over Paso Robles in a Southern Section Division IX first-round playoff game at Moorpark High.
The all-around effort by Paul, who also had a late interception to preserve the Musketeers’ victory, helped Moorpark break open a 7-7 game at halftime.
Moorpark also received strong performances from running back Dan LaFleur and receivers Scott Weaver and David Burns.
LaFleur scored on a four-yard run to break the 7-7 tie in the third quarter and again on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. LaFleur also made an interception. Weaver had five catches for 99 yards and Burns had four receptions for 74 yards, including a 25-yard scoring catch that gave Moorpark a 21-7 advantage.
“In the second half we picked it up,” Paul said. “We stepped it up and we did what we had to do.”
Moorpark (8-3), ranked second defensively among Southern Section teams, limited Paso Robles (7-4) to 201 yards.
