Jeffrey Schaire, 41, former editor in chief of Art and Antiques magazine. Schaire attracted international attention in 1986 when he disclosed the existence of 240 previously unknown paintings and drawings by artist Andrew Wyeth of his blond neighbor, Helga Testorf. A native New Yorker educated at the State University of New York and the University of British Columbia, Schaire taught English literature, worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and then moved into publishing and a job at Harper’s magazine. He joined Art and Antiques in 1983 and served as its editor from 1987 until 1992. On Monday in New York from complications of AIDS.
