ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Two Names in One
In 1896, John Rea combined the names of his two daughters, Kate and Ella, to name his 120-acre ranch in the Anaheim area. A road that led to the ranch also became known as Katella.
Though Rea’s ranch no longer exists, the street became Katella Avenue, one of the major roadways in Orange County.
