School officials recently honored auto dealer Joe MacPherson for donating about $11,000 to the Tustin Unified School District during a summer fund-raising campaign that raised about $165,000 for Orange County schools.
MacPherson, president and founder of five auto dealerships in the county, donated $50 for each car sold or leased from May 19 to Sept. 4.
Customers were asked if they wished the money to go toward a specific school. When no preference was stated, the money went to the Orange County Public Schools Fund, a nonprofit foundation. That fund received $33,400.
Overall, $165,800 was given to about 480 county schools.
