Television: IndeNet, a local distributor of television programs and commercials, announced an agreement to purchase the television services division of Los Angeles-based Starcom Television Services Inc. for about $5 million in stock. Starcom is a distributor of syndicated shows, including King World’s “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” and Columbia TriStar Television’s “Ricki Lake” and “Seinfeld.” IndeNet’s Chicago-based Mediatech subsidiary distributes “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and other syndicated programs. Starcom is Mediatech’s biggest competitor in the highly fragmented television syndication business. Robert Lautz, IndeNet’s president and chief executive, said the acquisition is part of a string of purchases intended to build a digital distribution network for television shows and commercials.
