Ahead of the curve, or around the bend (“Bright Blight, Big City,” Sept. 26)? Why is it that no one has mentioned the energy required to light all of these headlights? The alternator (or generator) in your car is a load on your engine, requiring more fuel to be burned, which means more pollution.

Your comments on the proper use of daytime running lights is right on target, as are your comments about “light pollution” on our crowded freeways.
