13 Hurt in Bomb Blast Near Paris Subway Stop

PARIS — A gas canister full of nuts and bolts exploded in a trash can outside a Paris subway station Friday, injuring 13 people just hours after the main suspect in a bombing campaign that has terrorized France was buried.
A postal worker had spotted a suspicious bag in a garbage can and alerted police, who cordoned off the area. The device exploded just before a bomb squad was to dismantle it.
Two police officers were sprayed by the bomb’s shrapnel, and the remaining injured were civilians treated for shock and ruptured eardrums, officials said.
Friday’s attack came hours after the burial of Khaled Kelkal, the Algerian-born bombing suspect killed by police in a gun battle near Lyon a week ago.
