11 Children Stung by Wasps

MISSION VIEJO — A swarm of yellow-jacket wasps stung 11 children playing at an elementary school Thursday.
Teachers and county firefighters called to Viejo Elementary School in the 26700 block of Via Grande then “herded [the children] up, calmed them down and got them back inside,” where they waited for parents to pick them up, said Emmy Day, spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
None were seriously injured, Day said. One student received medical attention from the school nurse because she had trouble breathing after the wasp sting, Day said.
County vector control workers were called to try to determine why the wasps had attacked the children, Day said.
