South Bay : Distracted Driver Fatally Hits Man
An accident caused by a driver who was looking for her garage-door opener killed a Torrance man, Redondo Beach police said.
Zakarya Kalimi, 46, was parked on the southbound side of the Esplanade in Redondo Beach as he was trying to start his car Tuesday night. He was struck by a car that veered right from the southbound lane. Police said the driver of the car, Takako Sakamaki, 32, was looking for her garage-door opener at the time.
Kalimi suffered head injuries and broken limbs and was taken to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he died Wednesday morning.
Police are investigating. No charges have been filed.
