South Bay : STREET SALES

They sell cotton candy on 162nd Street and strawberries on Hawthorne Boulevard, and Lawndale Mayor Harold Hoffman says he won’t tolerate it.
Vendors have complained that street peddlers are hurting their business, so the mayor ordered a study to determine how many of the street sellers are unlicensed. He also asked for an evaluation of local business license laws.
“If they’re supposed to be licensed and they’re not, we have to let them know what they are doing is wrong,” Hoffman said. “We’re especially concerned about the people who are selling food because that requires a different kind of license all together.”
Hoffman said many merchants have seen the peddlers come in large trucks that are filled with carts of merchandise. He said the sellers are dropped off in the morning and picked up in the evening. He estimates that there are eight regular peddlers in town.
