Western Digital Sells Unit: In its biggest move yet to return to its core business of making computer disk drives, Western Digital Corp. said it will sell its multimedia products unit to Philips Electronics. Terms of the deal, expected to close in November, were not disclosed. Analysts said the Netherlands company will probably pay Western Digital between $50 million and $65 million for the unit, which is based in Mountain View, Calif., and employs 75 people. The unit, which accounted for less than 5% of Western Digital’s $2.1 billion in revenue last year, would have required more investment to grow, and the Irvine manufacturer said it wants to invest instead in its disk drive products.
