Colleges : Campus scene : MISSION VIEJO : Banned Books to Be Celebrated at Festival
- Share via
Those who like to keep up with books that are controversial will find plenty of reading material at a festival beginning Saturday at Saddleback College.
Banned Book Week will include readings from books that have been outlawed in some parts of the nation because they were deemed objectionable by residents.
Among the titles are the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “A Thousand Acres,” which was banned at a high school in Lynden, Wash., because opponents there contended that it had “no literary value.”
Other books challenged in the past year were Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” which some said was pornographic and contained satanic pictures.
