Re Leonard Snebold’s Sept. 14 letter: Snebold would do well to conduct some basic research. Greenpeace activists were in Tian An Men Square earlier this year to protest continued Chinese nuclear testing. Given the especially bloody history of the chosen venue, I hardly think that “ . . . afraid of incurring the wrath of such a regime” is an particularly appropriate way of describing these men and women.
Greenpeace has repeatedly demonstrated that the need to protect our environment transcends mere local political concerns. These people are the environmental conscience of us all. However, where most of us simply shake our heads and tut disapprovingly, this organization acts--with the individuals concerned often facing both fearsome governments and great personal danger.
