CHANNEL ISLANDS : International Marine Biologists to Speak

Three international marine biologists from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand will speak about the marine ecosystems of their countries Monday at the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center.
Colin Buxton, a professor of fisheries science at Rhodes University in Port Elizabeth, Australia, will talk about the role of South Africa’s marine-protected areas in reef fish conservation.
Dave Pollard of New South Wales Fisheries in Sydney will examine Australia’s expanding use of marine reserves to conserve fish.
And Bill Ballantine, a marine biologist at the University of Auckland, will describe New Zealand’s budding system of marine reserves.
The panel discussion will begin at 7 p.m. at the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center, 1901 Spinnaker Drive, in Ventura. Admission is free.
